What even is Mastodon?
Mastodon is like Twitter, but without an algorythm. If you want to know more, have a look at the project's website.
How did I discover Mastodon?
I literally don't know. It has probably something to do with Deekshith, but I am not sure.
What Makes Matodon better than Twitter?
-
The people. Only friendly and helpful people are the ones I am in contact with. Since Mastodon was pretty tech-focused, but isn't anymore, it wasn't difficult to find people to follow.
-
My Twitter-Page is trash. It is full of "Want to learn JavaScript? Look at this thread" or "If you are learning JavaScript, say hi". This is useless and unentertaining content.
-
Mastodon is not about followers. I've never even seen a toot like "Please follow for more content like this" or such. You have your guys and that's it.
-
Mastodon doesn't steal your time. You scroll through your timeline and you are done, since there is just not more content from the people you follow. You can safely put your phone away, without having to say "Only this post, only this quick comment".
-
A character-limit of 500 or higher (depending on the instance)
-
No ads
What I don't like
- The UI if you look at nested threads or messages. It's just horrible. An extra tab for private messages would be cool, as well.
Summary
I like Mastodon and the people there.
